I don't mince words when it comes to advertising. The worst, most obnoxious, self serving, self promoting children grow up to be politicians or ad execs. Advertising is an unsolicited intrusion upon your psyche, designed by individuals who are trained to break through the defense mechanisms you naturally build up against these intrusions. The more successful the ad at generating some kind of emotional response in you, the victim, the more gold coins end up in the pockets of people who have devoted their creative energies to swindling their fellow human beings. I don't for one second think "swindle" is hyperbole either. Advertising is lying. It is a subtle manipulation of your reasoning, or emotions for the purpose of getting you to buy something (car, cereal, insurance), or into something (religion, politician, philosophy)
So when "groups" like The BLF take on advertisers, and turn their carefully crafted words against them, I rejoice. social contract theory seems vindicated when a small band of hoodlums take it upon themselves to correct the messages we are bombarded with.
