I wanna develop my own negatives. All I need is a film tank/shaker, a spool or two, three kinds of chemical (developer, stop, and fixer) a timer, and a pitch black room to transfer film from roll to tank.
Easy.
This will eliminate the week long wait that typically ensues when turning in a roll of "exotic" (for Japan) kodak film, or pretty much all 120 film. It does not eliminate the expense of scanning the film, and frankly, I'm not at all convinced it ends up saving any money, but it gives me control over my own shit. Now I can fuck up all on my own...
I'm re-learning everything I suppose. Haven't touched the developing side since 1994, my senior year of high school.
I suggest going back to doing everything like you were in your senior year of high school.
